How a Love of Storytelling, (okay lies), Fox, Scully, and Ancient Aliens, Led to My Novels

As a kid, I called them stories. My parents called them lies. Turns out, we were both right—I just had a knack for making things up. I’ve always loved storytelling, but it wasn’t until later in life that I realized I could turn that passion into a novel. Over the years, I watched many people abandon their creative pursuits, whether due to time, doubt, or life’s obligations. I didn’t want to be one of them.

One night, while bouncing between The X-Files and Ancient Aliens, indulging my fascination with the unexplained, I made a decision—I was going to see what I could do. With no outline, just a pantser mindset, I started typing, letting the characters and story unfold as they pleased. My love for Native American culture, the Pacific Northwest, and all things mysterious naturally found their way into my paranormal mystery.

Sales were slow at first, but the reviews were strong. A conversation with a publicist led to a rework—new titles, tighter storylines, and fresh covers, and a reborn desire to succeed. This process, combined with my research into real-life events along the Rogue River, became the backbone of my revamped series.

Storytelling can be pure excitement. I get to be the first to witness something no one else has ever heard. Garth Stein once said, “Write something you’d want to read,” and that’s exactly what I’ve done. And that’s when it hit me—just like Jerry Seinfeld’s realization that what he had been looking for in a relationship all along was himself, I realized I had been searching for the kinds of stories I wanted to read… and the answer had been right in front of me the whole time. So, I wrote them.

Not everyone will love them, and that’s fine. If even a few readers enjoy the ride, I’m satisfied. Either way, I’ll keep telling stories—if only to entertain myself.

A Life Shaped by Adventure and Creativity

Before I was an author, my creative bent was photography. My journey with the camera started in high school and later took me around the world while serving in the U.S. Air Force. After four years of service, I spent decades traveling, raising my son, and falling in love with the creative side of my brain as I watched him thrive in the theater. As a supportive parent, booster club president, and wannabe set-builder, I found myself immersed in storytelling in a whole new way—through performance, stage design, and the raw emotion of actors baring their souls. It reminded me why stories matter.

Now, my days in southern Oregon are filled with hiking, cycling, paddleboarding, fishing, and photography—often managing to fit all of them into a single adventure. When winter rolls in, I swap the paddleboard for snowshoes and hiking boots, always thinking about my next photo and story while spending time in the Oregon outdoors.

My Novels

Each of my books reflects my love for storytelling, mystery, and the landscapes that shape me:

📚 The Rogue River Incident, Books I & II –A gripping paranormal mystery inspired by a real event, decades ago, along the Rogue River. Mysterious disappearances, unexplained phenomena, and deep-rooted local legends collide in a story that blends history, folklore, and the unknown. Set in the mesmerizing beautiful wilderness of Southern Oregon, these books unravel a chilling tale of secrets buried in the past, strange occurrences that defy explanation, and the relentless pursuit of the truth—no matter how unsettling it may be.

📚 Hidden Beneath the Pines: All Families Have Secrets – A dark and twisted whodunit that delves into the shadows of family secrets, deception, and long-buried trauma. When a brutal murder shatters the quiet of a small town, the investigation unearths a tangled web of lies, betrayals, and a decades-old mystery that refuses to stay buried. As the search for the truth intensifies, deep, hidden wounds resurface, revealing that some secrets are more dangerous than the crimes themselves. With themes of abduction, psychological unraveling, and the haunting weight of generational sins, this nail-biting thriller keeps readers on edge until the last page.

📚 The Good Sheriff – No One Heard Their Screams –A twisted mystery that delves into the depths of grief, redemption, and the unexpected horrors that come with trying to escape the past. After the tragic and violent death of his wife, a sheriff flees his pain, seeking solace in a new town where no one knows his name or his past. But the quiet refuge he longs for turns into something far darker when he stumbles upon a sinister truth lurking beneath the town’s surface. As he’s drawn into a terrifying web of secrets, deception, and violence, he must confront not only the evil around him but questions within. A haunting story of loss, survival, new lust or love, and the relentless grip of the past, The Good Sheriff is a gripping tale of a man running from one nightmare only to land in another.

🔥 Coming Soon: Memories of an Ash Covered Sky – A gripping mystery set against the devastation of the 2020 Almeda Fire. This book is personal. While a work of fiction, it’s inspired by real places, real memories, and the all-too-real destruction of the Almeda Fire.

I wanted to explore the weight of loss—not just physical, but emotional. The kind of loss that happens over years, in the things left unsaid and the people we fail to hold onto. And I wanted to explore redemption—because sometimes, when everything has burned away, all that’s left is the chance to start again.

Releasing in April 2025.

Like my previous books, Memories of an Ash Covered Sky is set in Southern Oregon, a place that remains as much a character as any person I create.

My stories are shaped by the landscapes I’ve explored, the experiences I’ve lived, and the mysteries that have always intrigued me. Whether you're a longtime reader or just discovering my books, I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I do.
